Don't Forget to Register by
October 18th and Vote on November 2nd!
Pierre, SD – “South Dakotans have a strong
voting ethic and understand the importance of each person’s vote. In 2002
South Dakota topped the nation in turnout of our voting age population.
Let’s make the 2004 general election a repeat of that outstanding turnout!
In order to vote, however, you must be registered,” said Chris Nelson,
Secretary of State.
"The time is now to register for the November 2
general election. October 18 is the voter registration deadline," said
Nelson.
Anyone who will be 18 years of age by November 2
and has never registered to vote or someone who has moved and needs to
change their address should register. Voters may register at a county
auditor's office, city finance office, driver's license station, Department
of Human Services offices providing assistance to the disabled, military
recruitment offices or public assistance agencies providing food stamps,
TANF or WIC.
Forms may also be downloaded from
www.sdsos.gov. Registration forms obtained from the internet or at
these offices may be mailed to your county auditor's office, but mail-in
cards must be received by the county auditor by October 18.
College students may register where they are
attending school or in their home county. No one may register in two
counties.Anyone needing information on
registering may call their local county auditor or the Secretary of State's
toll-free election line, 1-888-70ELECT.
